April 7th 6:30 – 9:30 at Huntsville Museum of Art
“Folk Fusion: Where Fashion Meets Folk Art”
Grand Opening Cocktail Event
Featuring a live performance by The Sweeplings
The Huntsville Museum of Art is distinguished to be the only museum outside of New York to present the exhibit Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art.
To launch this extraordinary exhibit The Huntsville Museum of Art Guild is proud to host Folk Fusion: Where Fashion Meets Folk Art, A Grand Opening Cocktail Event on April 7, 2016 beginning at 6:30pm in the galleries of HMA.
Thirteen established and emerging designers including Catherine Malandrino and Fabio Costa, Project Runway Season 10 and Project Runway All Stars Season 4, were asked to create a fashion piece of original couture inspired by one or more works from the American Folk Art Museum’s collection in New York City. Thus, the Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art exhibit was born!
At the Grand Opening Cocktail event experience the unveiling of Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art and congratulate the winning Alabama or Auburn designer of our fundraiser Fashion Fusion Face-off. Be entertained with music by The Sweeplings while they perform their folk/pop hits. Preview the Black Ball Collection by DeLoain through live models, while sampling delicious food by Lyn’s Gracious Goodness, beer by Rocket Republic Brewing Company, and an open bar, and bid at our premium silent and live auctions – all in one fabulous night of folk art and couture fashion!
Leading up to the event, HMA Guild has organized a fundraiser that includes 8 emerging fashion designers; 4 from the University of Alabama and 4 from Auburn University. These design students are competing to win Fashion Fusion Face-off: The Iron Bowl of Fashion. They were inspired by art from the HMA collection to create their own signature piece. Everyone can vote for their favorite design/designer once a day on our website: www.fashionfusionfaceoff.com. Additionally support your alma mater by making a donation in the name of one of our local alumni celebrities.
